At 1:30 pm today, during a press conference, the Douglas County District Attorney's office announced that Jake Gardner, the man who killed James Scurlock during a protest in Omaha on Saturday night, was released from Douglas County Corrections and will remain uncharged with any crime on account of self defense.
Scurlock was shot and killed Saturday night as hundreds of protesters swarmed the downtown and Old Market areas of Omaha, Nebraska.
The gun that Gardner used has also been confirmed, by District Attorney Don Kleine, to have had an expired conceal carry permit.
The protest, to speak out against the unlawful killing of George Floyd has been previously met in Omaha by police with pepper balls, tear gas deployments, national guard, and recently, an 8pm city-wide curfew.
